Red light cameras

Congratulations to Gary B. Gray on a well-researched article regarding red-light cameras. It exposed the true purpose of the cameras as a “stealth tax” on the motoring public. Look at the positioning of the cameras and you will see what Gray’s article makes obvious it was to garner revenue for the city from right-turn on red “technical’’ violations. Thanks to the leadership of Rep. Matthew Hill and others the state has essentially eliminated this tax. The safety issues have not statistically changed. Over four years of 100 percent data from these intersections is adequate to form the obvious conclusion — the cameras need to go in November when the contract expires.GARY W. LYONJohnson City
