Down by seven points midway through the third quarter, Patrick Good wasn’t about to let his team down.After being held to nine points in the first half, the sophomore guard scored eight straight points to give his team a one-point lead. He kept adding to the total and ended with 30 points overall in David Crockett’s 73-64 win over rival Daniel Boone on Tuesday night.“When you get down, all you can do is look ahead,” Good said. “I couldn’t let my team down. I just had to find a way to get it going. My shot just went in and thank God that it did because we needed some buckets there.”The homestanding Pioneers improved to 4-3 in the Big Seven Conference and 15-8 overall. Boone (2-4, 12-10) led most of the way before Good’s outburst. From there, the fight was on with 10 lead changes before the Pioneers took the lead for good with Isaac Barkley’s 3-pointer at the 3:03 mark.Crockett scored five more before Boone’s Dillon Reppart knocked down a jumper with :56 left. The ’Blazers couldn’t get any closer as Dustin Day put the game out of reach at the free-throw line.Day hit 9 of10 free-throw attempts as part of a 17-point performance.“Percentage-wise, he’s our best free-throw shooter,” Coach Good said. “I felt very confident when he’s on the line that we’re going to get two every time.”For the ’Blazers, Reppart led the way with 23 points and seven rebounds. Alex Percell contributed 15 points, but the ’Blazers weren’t able to convert some open looks in the closing minutes.“The momentum changed,” Boone coach Ryan Arnold said. “We didn’t execute and they out-toughed us. Give credit to Crockett. They outplayed us in the second half. I thought we played a great first half and we had their backs against the wall. But, they put our backs against the wall the whole second half.”Down 9-7 early, the ’Blazers went on a 10-2 run. Holden Hensley capped off the first quarter as Boone led 19-14. Although Crockett closed within a bucket on two occasions, the ’Blazers led throughout the second quarter. Reppart hit a pair of open jumpers towards the end of the half for a 36-28 lead at the break.A bank shot by Aaron Shelton gave Boone a 41-34 lead in the third quarter, followed by the eight straight points by Patrick Good for a 42-41 Crockett lead. It led to the back-and-forth tussle before Crockett finally gained control.“Boone just kept coming back,” Coach Good said. “Percell hit a three. Reppart and Hensley do something. You can’t leave any of their players open. Coach Arnold does such a great job with them.“But our guys made up in their minds they were going to fight. When we play that way, who knows what will happen. If you put it all on the line, that’s all you can do and it’s amazing what things will happen.”GirlsDaniel Boone 68David Crockett 40The Lady ’Blazers took the lead early in the second quarter (4-2, 15-7) and never looked back to defeat the Lady Pioneers (1-5, 4-16).Four players hit double figures for Boone, led by Allison Littleton with 13 points. Katelyn Cox, Taylor Carmichael and Jaclyn Jenkins all ended with 11, while Autumn Bradshaw barely missed double figures with nine points. “When you have 4-5 players score in double figures, you’re hard to guard,” Boone coach Travis Mains said. “We shared the ball and when you score, you’re going to play a little harder.”Crockett attacked the boards early, getting the first seven rebounds of the game to take a 14-11 lead. However, Allison Littleton scored four points over the final 37 seconds of the period for a 15-14 Boone lead after one quarter.Kaley Persinger, who had a team-high 12 points for Crockett, scored next to give the Lady Pioneers a 16-15 advantage. Boone responded with 11 straight points and never trailed again.“We started matching up a little better in our press and got it turned around,” Mains said. “We weren’t getting matched up. If you don’t press correctly, it doesn’t look good.”Littleton’s 3-pointer with eight seconds left, helped Boone to a 35-19 halftime lead. A 13-point deficit was as close as Crockett got the rest of the way.However with Chelsea Lyninger grabbing a game-high nine rebounds, it was a much more competitive showing for the Lady Pioneers than the teams’ first meeting. The first time around, Boone jumped out to a 48-16 halftime lead and cruised to a 77-32 victory. “I was really pleased with how we came out of the gate,” Lady Pioneers coach Will Conley said. “That second quarter just killed us, getting behind that much. We just have to find a way when we get behind to stay disciplined and still compete like that. We tried to fight back. We just couldn’t cut it.”
