Elizabethton police arrested a Unicoi man Tuesday night shortly after he allegedly robbed a gas station on Milligan Highway.Officers were called to the Sunoco at 1258 Milligan Hwy., around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Minutes before, a man reportedly entered the store and demanded money from the cashier. The cashier gave the suspect cash and he fled from the scene. As he fled, witnesses reported seeing the robber get into a nearby parked vehicle. A witness followed the vehicle, reportedly a silver Saturn Vue, as it turned onto Milligan Highway and then onto Swadley Road.A short time later, officers with the Johnson City Police Department located the vehicle, parked and unoccupied. Inside, they found several items of clothing that resembled those reported by witnesses as being worn by the robber. A police K9 tracked the area, leading officers to a nearby apartment where they believe the suspect had been after the robbery. He already left the residence, though, by the time police arrived. Meanwhile, authorities determined the vehicle was registered to a relative of Aaron Wallace, 30, 1080 Virginia Ave., Unicoi.A short time later, Wallace was located by officers at a residence on North Barton Street in Johnson City.According to police, he was wearing jeans and dark running shoes that matched the suspect descriptions given by witnesses and captured on surveillance video.Wallace was charged with aggravated robbery and transported to the Carter County Jail where he was being held on $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on March 4.A robbery that occurred at the same business on Jan. 10 remains under investigation. No charges have been placed in that incident at this time.In that robbery, the suspect entered the store and demanded cash from the clerk. The suspect concealed his hands, but threatened the store clerk that he was armed. He left the business with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect was described as being a white male, approximately 6-feet tall, medium build. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing blue jeans, running shoes and a grey hooded sweatshirt. It is believed he used a T-shirt or similar article of clothing to partially conceal his face. Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to contact the Elizabethton Police Department at 542-4141 or Crime Stoppers at 542-7574.
