Bluff City traffic stop turns into police chase, crash in Elizabethton

What began as a traffic stop in Bluff City on Friday morning quickly turned into a police pursuit and subsequent crash in Elizabethton.According to Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Jonathan Street, a Bluff City police officer pulled over a black Toyota Corolla somewhere in Bluff City shortly after 9 a.m.The driver, after initially stopping for the officer, reportedly sped away from the scene. A police pursuit ensued with the driver of the Corolla reaching speeds over 90 miles per hour during the chase, Street said.In one of the curves on Highway 19E north as the pursuit approached Elizabethton, the Corolla reportedly began fishtailing before traveling off the road and going airborne.According to reports, the driver of the vehicle was thrown from the car onto the highway median.
