Bucs rally but fall short against Northern Kentucky

Clinton Freeman stayed hot for East Tennessee State, but couldn’t power the Buccaneers to a series sweep against Northern Kentucky.The Bucs trailed by eight runs heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, but came up on the short end of a 13-11 decision Sunday at Thomas Stadium.Freeman homered twice and went 4-for-4 with four runs and four RBIs, but Cody Kuzniczci and Jordan Procyshen each homered while combining for seven RBIs and six of NKU’s 17 hits.Freeman, who now has six home runs on the season, went 8-for-10 with two doubles, four home runs, six runs, nine RBIs and two saves while helping ETSU (4-2, 13-13) win two of three in the Atlantic Sun Conference series. The David Crockett alum is hitting .400 for the season.Right fielder Tyler Roach homered and drove in four runs for ETSU. Shortstop Chris Riopedre was 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.Freshman left-hander Jamin McCann (2-2) took the loss. He allowed five runs, nine hits and one walk while striking out one. Dylan Tritsch and Chris Cook (1-for-5, three runs) have now reached base safely in 13 straight games.Freshman left-hander Adam Jafine got his first collegiate win. He allowed nine runs (six earned) on 10 hits in seven innings, moving his record to 1-4 on the year. It was the first victory against ETSU since 1978 for the Norse (2-4, 7-18). ETSU plays No. 21 Tennessee on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
