Admirable leaders

Most folks in this region used to look up to their county commissioners because they served with integrity, openness and served in what amounted to a voluntary position. They did it to help the needs of their district.Now what is there to admire? They’ve turned into a bickering, backstabbing, greedy body of self-regulation and filibustering (which is the use of irregular or obstructive tactics by a member of a legislative assembly to prevent the adoption of a measure generally favored or to force a decision against the will of the majority).It’s no secret many people from Washington County have been quite dissatisfied with commissioners voting themselves raises and complete coverage of insurance at the taxpayers’ expense all the while charging our hard-working county employees more and more for their insurance with little or no raises year after year. It is mind-boggling that the voters keep re-electing the same people who never live up to their campaign promises, and these same voters complain about the number of commissioners, but nothing is ever done to trim the number down.Won’t someone step forward and explain how this is done? Who is responsible for keeping this independent body in check? The county mayor? Maybe that’s why so many of the current body dislike the mayor. He hasn’t been knuckling under to the wealth and egotism of a few.I’m for anyone who cares enough for his constituents to make decisions that benefit the county as a whole and not just the commissioners.P.D.
