Johnson City police reported Friday that a child had been charged with stealing nearly $10,000 from a safe at a Johnson City residence.Police did not list the age or gender of the alleged offender or the exact location of the incident. The accused’s name was withheld because of age.Police said the child had opened the home safe at the residence in north Johnson City and taken cash and coins totaling about $9,900. Charged with theft over $1,000, the child was arrested at the residence and taken to the Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Johnson City. A preliminary hearing was set for today in Johnson City Juvenile Court.
