I wish to tell the voters of Carter, Washington and Unicoi counties about what a quality candidate for Criminal Court Judge they have in Dennis Brooks. While I cannot vote in this race, I would like to share why I believe Dennis is the kind of man we need as a judge. My grandson was the victim of child abuse years ago in Washington County. The perpetrator of this abuse was related to a prominent political figure in that community. Many letters from well-known people were written to the District Attorney’s office to lessen the punishment sought for the crime. I lived in another state and had no political pressure to bring, but I love my grandchildren and demanded the prosecutor’s office to seek justice. The case was assigned to Brooks and he took the side of my grandson. The pictures of my grandson’s bruises and marks all over his face and body were more important to Dennis than all the letters and pressure from the defendant’s relatives. He made sure the case was prosecuted aggressively and jail time resulted. We need someone as a judge who has courage to stand up for what is right, not cave to political pressure. Dennis has proven to me that he is that type of public servant, and I believe he would be an outstanding judge. BEVERLY HAFENBristol, Va.
