Support Krieger

Many years ago I worked for Fleming Foods (previously Giant Wholesale). The company was in danger of closing down, because our customers were dissatisfied with our pricing and our services. As a last ditch effort, the company brought in a new president, Tom Krieger.Tom immediately visited all major customers. He held individual meetings with our warehouse men, truck drivers, buyers, merchandisers and with my department (accounting). He explained to us the importance of customer service and cooperation between all of our internal departments. Tom put together a new pricing and merchandising program which received a favorable reception from our customers. In a relatively short period of time, we went from one of the worst performing divisions of our company to one of the best. In the 10 years that Tom served as president, our sales increased more than 300 percent and we became a very profitable company. Tom instilled in us a sense of pride and integrity. He also personally funded three scholarships per year for customers and associates’ students.Tom became involved on the Salvation Army Advisory Board and later became president. He and a salesman friend formulated plans to build a Ronald McDonald House and took on the task of gaining approval for the project. The house was built and opened debt-free without using any government resources. Since his retirement, Tom has stayed engaged in numerous charitable organizations such as United Way, Coalition For Kids, Keystone Dental Care, and serving at East Tennessee State University as chairman of the Roan Scholars Steering Committee and vice chair of the ETSU Foundation. Tom exhibits the right kind of leadership by being a positive influence on others while serving the community with integrity.Washington County needs Tom Krieger.JAN McELYEAJonesborough
