Light may send problem birds away

I’m writing in regard to the Jan. 12 story about the South Mountain View Circle (in Johnson City) neighborhood’s problem with starlings. I had the same problem and I contacted the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency in Knoxville. Officers there suggested I use cannons, guns and any loud noise I could make to scare them away. Loud noise didn’t work. What really worked for me was a 2.5-million-candlepower hand-held searchlight. I started shining the light just as they were coming in and filling the trees at dusk. They don’t like strong light. That was about four years ago, and they haven’t come back.I sent TWRA my solution, but got no reply. I hope this will help others with their bird problems.CONLEY LEWISBluff City
