The Unicoi County School System is still not releasing information on the investigation that has led to the unpaid suspension of a county high school teacher.Unicoi County Director of Schools Denise Brown confirmed Monday that a teacher has been suspended without pay pending an ongoing investigation. However, Brown said she could not release the teacher’s name, the school at which the teacher works and details on the investigation and what led to its initiation. In a Tuesday email, Brown said she is still unable to release this information at this time. “There is no new information at this time,” Brown stated in the email. “Realistically it will be the end of this week or first of next week before I will have all information to release in reference to the teacher suspension.”Brown did confirm Monday that the Unicoi County Sheriff’s Department is involved in the investigation. Unicoi County Sheriff Mike Hensley said Tuesday that the investigation is ongoing and his department is working with Brown in the matter. Hensley also said no one has been charged at this time, and he is unable to release further information at this point.UCSD Chief Deputy Frank Rogers said the sheriff’s department is continuing to interview people in the investigation. He said the investigation involves a teacher at Unicoi County High School. Like Brown, Hensley said it may be several days before additional information is released.
